Once a year Venetians gather for this spectacular event on the Giudecca Island.

The Redentore Festival, also known as the Feast of the Redeemer, is celebrated the third Saturday in July to commemorate the liberation of the city of Venice from the great plague in 1577 for which the Church of the Redentore was built. A floating bridge is temporarily built from the Zattere to the Church, allowing pedestrians to cross and visit the church.

This celebration is still a treasured tradition after almost five centuries and the locals line up along the Giudecca to watch the regatta and also the magnificent fireworks show above San Marco Square.
